Is your body out of balance? What is the best way to restore this?

We are looking to find out why your system is out of balance and what the best way is to go about restoring balance for you. This is why functional medicine is patient-focused.

What is functional medicine?

Functional medicine is a branch of medicine that sees illness as the result of dysfunction. Dysfunction happens because of an imbalance or stressor that prevents our bodies from working the way they are meant to.

Imbalances that cause dysfunction may be the result of environmental factors such as stress, diet, exercise, emotional distress or trauma. Even the water we drink and the air we breathe impacts our health. DNA, our genetic blueprint, also affects how we function.
Each of us has a unique set of circumstances, surroundings, history and genetic composition. This means, that even if you’re experiencing the same symptoms as someone else, the cause of those symptoms might be different.

Instead of focusing on the dysfunction, we aim to restore functionality to your individual systems. When each system is working best, our physical constitution integrates optimally.

As a functional medicine practitioner, I aim to uncover the underlying reasons causing the symptoms and to work with you to rehabilitate and support your body’s natural healing ability.

Functional Medicine Focuses on Overall Health.

Each patient’s journey is different. When we embark on this journey together, my intention is to empower you with knowledge about how uniquely your body works. We will explore how you can influence, manage and improve the functioning of your own body.

In this way, you become the most essential part of your healing journey. You are at the centre, informed and participating in each step.

This path leads to a better understanding and overall awareness of your health and what works best for you.

Functional medicine requires a partnership between patient and practitioner.

There is a healing partnership between patient and practitioner - a therapeutic bond. Systematically, we work together to bring about the healthy functioning of each system within you. In this way, we focus on eliminating the causes of disease, not just the symptoms.

Functional Medicine Focuses on Overall Health.

With functional medicine, we see symptoms as a sign of illness. Rather than medicating the symptoms, we read the signs as the body’s way of communicating with us. These signs indicate to us where attention needs to be focused - what area is out of balance.

This starts us on a path to restoring balance within you. Each fully functioning system can then integrate into a healthy whole.
